Parapet:

 any low protective wall or barrier at the edge of a balcony, roof, bridge or the like.

Pit rock face:

rock face in a quarry under exploitation that is being worked on for extraction.

Polished:

smooth, generally shiny finish to stone that highlights  certain aesthetic qualities (veins, fossils, colour...).

Porosity:

measure of microcavities in stone that contain liquid or gas.Porous rock is generally less frost resistant than hard rock due to the possible expansion of frozen water in the cavities.
