Poiseul stone on the Museum's floor
The Fine Arts Museum of Nancy has a rich, long history. Located on the famous Place Stanislas, classed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the museum was renovated and enlarged in 1999. The architect chose Poiseul stone for the flooring and staircase.

Today, workers and artisans benefit from improved labour conditions. However stone is a demanding material. For proper treatment it requires competence and know-how, both of which are slowly disappearing. It is imperative that we train future generations to carry on the excellent work of our forefathers: stone cutters, sculptors, processors, quarrymen, layers or roofers….
